# Add fline's skills to your AI app

This page adds fline's skills to the AI coding app you build with. A skill is a short set of instructions your AI app keeps on hand and reads by itself when a task needs it. You paste a line or two into Terminal, the app on your computer where you type commands.

You don't need the skills to use fline. When your AI app connects, fline tells it the basics. The skills add fline's full steps for each job:

- getting your project ready before its first time online,
- putting it online and updating it, without sending your password files,
- giving it a database of its own,
- putting it at a web address you own,
- finding out what went wrong,
- checking your app before you send its link to anyone.

The skills are public, at [github.com/smartline-ai/fline-skills](https://github.com/smartline-ai/fline-skills).

## Before you start

- **Your fline account is open,** and you've opened [your fline dashboard](https://app.dev.fline.sh) once. If not, see [Getting your account](https://dev.fline.sh/docs/get-access).
- **You can open Terminal.** [Connect Claude Code](https://dev.fline.sh/docs/connect-claude-code) explains how on a Mac or on Windows.

## Claude Code

In Terminal, paste this line and press Return:

```copy
claude plugin marketplace add smartline-ai/fline-skills
```

Then this one:

```copy
claude plugin install fline@fline
```

That adds the skills for every project folder. It also connects fline to Claude Code, so if you haven't connected fline yet, you don't need the line from [Connect Claude Code](https://dev.fline.sh/docs/connect-claude-code). Start Claude Code, type `/mcp`, choose fline, then **Authenticate**, and approve fline in your browser. [Connect Claude Code](https://dev.fline.sh/docs/connect-claude-code) shows what the approval page looks like.

**Already connected fline?** You keep your connection. Claude Code doesn't load fline twice, and you don't sign in again.

## Codex and other AI apps

This needs Node.js on your computer. For Codex, paste this line in Terminal and press Return:

```copy
npx skills add smartline-ai/fline-skills --global --agent codex --yes
```

It adds all eight skills for every project folder. We've checked that Codex then lists them.

For another AI app, change `codex` in that line to your app's name in this table. For these, we've checked that the skills are added, not yet that the app reads them.

| Your AI app | Name to use |
|---|---|
| Cursor | `cursor` |
| VS Code's AI chat (GitHub Copilot) | `github-copilot` |
| Gemini CLI | `gemini-cli` |
| Antigravity | `antigravity` |
| Grok | `grok` |
| Windsurf | `windsurf` |

This adds the skills only. Connect fline to your AI app as well: [Connect Codex](https://dev.fline.sh/docs/connect-codex), [Connect Cursor](https://dev.fline.sh/docs/connect-cursor), [Connect VS Code](https://dev.fline.sh/docs/connect-vscode) or [Other AI apps](https://dev.fline.sh/docs/connect-other).

## Check that it worked

Start your AI app in your project folder and ask:

```prompt
Which fline skills do you have?
```

It should name eight, such as `fline-launch` and `fline-diagnose`.

## Remove the skills

**Claude Code:** in Terminal, paste this line and press Return:

```copy
claude plugin uninstall fline@fline
```

If fline came with the skills, this disconnects fline from Claude Code too. Your app keeps running.

**Codex and other AI apps:** in Terminal, paste this line and press Return:

```copy
npx skills remove fline-build-plan fline-connect fline-database fline-diagnose fline-domain fline-launch fline-prepare fline-share-check --global --yes
```
